Children are busy and motivated learners using toys, dramatic play (dress up), games, art, and music throughout the day.Daily literacy activities include teacher read alouds, singing nursery rhymes, learning letters of the alphabet and the learning sounds of letters.These concepts are not for students to figure out on their own, left to chance, or for only practicing at home. When your child reaches ages four and five, they can attend preschool and are getting ready for kindergarten. However, in some schools, pre-K may look a lot like kindergarten does in others. Teachers make a point to clearly teach the letters and the sounds they make they point out and describe the letter shape, they model the sounds they make, and guide students in practicing to write them. How does kindergarten differ from pre-K A pre-K (or pre-kindergarten) classroom prepares kids around age 4 (again, some may still be about to turn 4 others may be almost 5) for kindergarten.Activities may include: coloring, writing practice, painting, snipping paper with scissors, play-doh activities, stringing beads, and using Legos. Children engage in daily practice for fine motor skills to develop hand strength for writing.Staff is well trained and knowledgeable and understand how children grow and develop.6-7 years old: 1st grade (elementary school) 7-8 years old: 2nd grade. From there, they progress through the grades from 1 to 12: 3-5 years old: preschool. Adults give students helpful feedback, praise and encouragement. Most children in the US start ‘proper’ school in 1st grade at 6 years old.There is a daily schedule of well-planned activities that promote meaningful learning. Preschool or kindergarten is designed, through different types of play, to prepare kids aged 3 to 5 for their first school.Children are engaged in learning through play and delighting in hands-on activities.
